Thanks you for the award and all the kind words.

As a further note regarding Connected Vehicles and my involvement I was primarily concerned with the use and protection of the airwaves allocated for this service and the communications protocols used. Just for the record, the underlying communications protocol is based on WiFi and is assigned the designation of 802.11P. As it is a WiFi protocol, it requires dedicated channels just like your home WiFi unit with a total of 7 channels set aside. Two channels are reserved for "safety of life" messages, one for control purposes and 4 for general messaging.

Groups working on developing all the communications pieces include the IEEE, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Aeronautical Radio, Inc (ARINC) and the US Department of Transportation. Other groups are working on developing applications that will include the various message sets and how to build commercial applications that could provide traveler information and the data that can be mined from the vehicles.

Security is a key concern in that there are steps already implemented preventing an individual unit being tracked or the data being sent from having personal identification information. The only fly in the ointment to use a phrase is if the devices are used in a tolling situation. The the unit would have to have an identifiable code that would be tied to an account of some type.
