Traffic Issue with NUVI 2555LMT

I haven't used my NUVI2555LMT for a long time, until recently.

I noticed that the Traffic Icon was Gray and when I tapped it, it said "The Traffic Receiver Power Cable is Disconnected"

When I looked at the Traffic Info on the GPS, it read "No Traffic Providers". I'm confident that my cable is OK, since it worked the last time, that I used the GPS.

Is the traffic support on the 2555LMT no longer available? I've had this unit for just over 8 years, so I wouldn't be surprised, if traffic is no longer being supported.

Power cable

I don't think Garmin has discontinued the traffic service. Take a look at the power cable. What is the model number? It should be something like GTM-36.

Since it hasn't been used for a long time..

...have you checked for and installed any updates with Garmin Express?

And of course, are you still using a traffic receiver power supply?

This was bought through Amazon, in 2019,but it has been working fine, in the past. I traffic isn't supported, in the areas where i normally travel, so it's not a big deal.

However, I might be able to justify a new unit, the next time we take a long road trip. You married guys know how that works. "Dear,I need to replace my GPS, because my current one, isn't working properly." LOL

I checked for updates and nothing that references Traffic.

Wow! The nuvi 2555 was released in 2011 so I am surprised Amazon was still selling them in 2019! Or did you buy it used/refurb through an Amazon reseller?

It was a reseller. No Gartmin name on it, but listed as with the right model number. Made in China.

Important thing, is it did work.

Having the traffic issue on

Having the traffic issue on with many units, I knew issue wasn't with the traffic cables. My issue were always with the USB connector. Charging issues were usually repaired by applying pressure while re-heating solder connections. If the USB jack was loose, but charging was ok without moving the cord, sometimes traffic wouldn't work. You have to make sure the USB Jack was stable, and never able to move. Most of the time, only the outer connections (ground?), had to be re-soldered. Another clue of the issue is the GPS powers up to COMPUTER MODE (like data cable connection), and 30 seconds later times out to GPS MODE. On one unit, solder wouldn't stick, and I couldn't secure the JACK. I used an elastic band to keep pressure on the JACK, applied epoxy overnight, which resolve traffic & charging issues. I was somewhat surprised because, the jack was completely covered in epoxy didn't short-out and tilted up slightly, I had to carefully get the jack to fit thru the hole in the back case. The GTM-26/36 cables really don't work well, but the HD-GTM60 cable is ok. SMARTLINK APP (NUVI 2595 ) is best by doesn't work with your device. YOU MAY RUIN THE UNIT TRYING TO FIX THE TRAFFIC ISSUE. You can use a great traffic app on your phone, SIGALERT, instead of trying to repair USB.

I had a similar broblem

I had a similar problem http://www.poi-factory.com/node/51481 and near the bottom of this long thread posted:
And The Saga Continues.
After using my spare all day tried plugging in the 2689 again (the semi-hardwired Garmin GTM 60 Digital 3D Portable Lifetime Traffic Receiver NADA.. nothing! Tried with the cable it came with plugged into my cigarette lighter socket and again nothing. Pressing/holding the off/on switch did nothing.
Brought the 2689 into the basement and plugged it into a wall charger.. And BINGO, it came to life. No traffic but the maps showed.
So, following the procedure RKLLKR had given us, (thanks and amazing what's there) reset the traffic providers. Poked around in the other options. Backed out, selected Apps > traffic and lo and behold have traffic.
Unplugged from the wall charger.. took it to my vehicle, tried it with the original cable plugged into my cigarette lighter socket.. have traffic. Turned it off (sleep) and plugged it into my semi-hardwired connection and.. again have traffic.
So.. we will see what tomorrow brings.

RKLLKR mentions getting a lock, I would not recognize one if there was.. but there was no waiting/searching and this from my basement in a single detached bungalow.
Thanks again to all that gave advice and tried to help.
