Garmin LMT (recommend a replacement?)

My Nuvi 3790 LMT has given up the ghost. What unit would be recommended to replace it? Is the life time maps still available? Don't care about the Traffic option. The Garmin based GPS in my Honda CRV is pretty good but doesn't give text to speech. It will say "Turn right" but my 3790 would say " Turn right on Main Street" Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I love my 3590

I don’t know much about the newer units since I use the nav system in my car and usually use Waze in my truck. But I understand that some of the Drive units are pretty good.

Current Models

The current models, as far as I am aware are the Drive 52, the Drivesmart 66, 76, 86, and Drivecam 76. I strongly advise not going with the Drive unit, as it relies solely on FM traffic for its traffic reports instead of connecting to a smartphone and pulling down traffic information that way. The Drive unit's junction views are very simplistic and do not display the intersection as you see it. There are other niceties the Drivesmart units have such as voice command, but those aren't essential.

The Drivecam 76 is a Drivesmart 76 with a built-in dash cam.

Older units such as the Drivesmart 55 and 65 can be found by searching the Internet. The Drivesmart 65 is still available at Best Buy, despite it being apparently discontinued by Garmin.

Needless to say, I recommend any Drivesmart unit over a Drive.

Happy with..

I am happy with my DS65, along with the Garmin app it gives reasonable traffic. Not happy it's been discontinued, wonder what the difference is with the DS66?

I'd still be using the DS65

I'd still be using the DS65 if it would fit in the car. Using an older driveluxe 50 in portrait mode in the stinger (bottom left of windshield). Sadly the only other unit supporting portrait mode today is the 86 which is waaaaaaaay too big.

@Ralph6410

A proper comparison is between the 65 and 76. The 66 has a 5.7" screen while the 76 has the 6.95" screen. The 65 is available with your choice of either Alexa or Garmin voice commands. The 76 only has Alexa as an option. Other than that the only real difference I am aware of is slight updates to the interface.

Keep in mind that I am only assuming the DS65 is discontinued due to Garmin only promoting the 66, 76, and 86 on the landing page for automotive GPS. Garmin hasn't said anything one way or another.

Also, a correction: the current Drive model is the Drive 53, not 52.

Pick the DS that has the

Pick the DS that has the screen size you want and you'll be good.

Why not repair it?

I'd call first but this individual used to be highly recommended for repairs.

DS65

The DS65 has been super for me. It boots and locks on satellites fast. Moves through its screens fast. Have had it for almost 4 years.
