What refrigerator would you buy today?

We bought an lg side by side back in 2017. By mid 2022 the compressor (linear) failed. The unit was outside of factory/extended warranty but was still covered by a class action settlement.

Jury is still out how long the unit will last for. It was close to $2K to buy. The class action settlement extends the compressor warranty to 10 years, but only 5 for labor.

Older Apple products updates may be available

It should be noted that some of the older Apple products also have some security updates that were released on 01/22/204. If you own an Apple product, it is probably worthwhile checking it.

Taxes (new TurboTax system requirements)

Taxes. It's that time of year again. FYI. Be forewarned. I have used Turbo Tax for as long as I can remember. This year things have changed. Turbo Tax requires an account. I have one and am okay with that. The next problem is that I can't use their software this year because it is ONLY for 64 bit operating systems. Found that little tid bit after I paid, downloaded, and tried to install.

all kidding aside -- snow and how it affects us

Times have changed since I was a kid.

For the third day this week, no school.

today I think we're getting more snow than before, 3" or more, up to 6".

When I was a kid, 9" and it was iffy whether there would be a cancellation, delay, or BAU.

One hint that my coworkers and I discussed, is that often decisions are made 15+ hours in advance, such as by 5 PM the prior day.

Anyone wanna buy a Tesla?

Hey, I hear there's a sale on lightly used Teslas in Chicago. They're on display at any EV charging station but you have to be willing to pay now (cash only, please) but not take delivery until April. So who's ready? C'mon, suckers, step right up!

Mgarledge update

Just wanted to let everyone know I touched base with Mary today.

She wanted me to let everyone know she's doing ok, depressed, which can be expected.

She's being monitored by her physician, and her children and grandchildren are taking turns staying with her.

She hasn't felt up to reading lately, but starting to check in here is on her list of progress goals.

Extreme cold considerations

Some extreme cold expected next week. 11 deg F is predicted for the Wednesday low in the Philadelphia area. Some of you are used to the low temps but others might want to read the article at https://www.bobvila.com/articles/freeze-in-cold-car/ and do a quick look around your cars. Likely a good idea to move the GPS units indoors as well.

On the Map #2

Jim1348 started a post on the 45th parallel and it reminded me of Point Roberts Washington.

While Point Roberts is not on the 45th it is on the 49th parallel and an interesting place on the map.

Any Overcurrent Protection? (60W Power Converter 110-240V AC to 12V 5A DC Power Adapter)

Would something like this have any over current protection?

The pessimist in me fears that it may overheat and be a hazard.
