POI's sorted alphabetically

Planning a coast to coast RV trip using my Nuvi2460.

I downloaded and modified the Pilot/Flying J CSV file as an example- replacing the existing "Pilot Travel Center-90 Truck Parking Spots - I-40 Exit 75; 715 S Lakeside Dr; Amarillo" text with ""Amarillo Pilot". I kept the remainder of the line (address, etc.) unchanged. This would allow me to view my fuel stops in a alphabetical order on my Garmin. I then did a data sort by column C (city name first).

However, when I used POI-LOADER to transer to my Nuvi2460, the POI's lost the alphabetical order. So, I saved the modified CSV file as an XLS. Opened the XLS and saved it as a CSV file. Used the POI-LOADER with the same results.

I serached FAQ's on this website plus the internet with no success.

What is this 80 year old doing wrong?

Thank you greatly for any advice. Don

Well

Don't think you're doing anything wrong. I can't recall exactly what those older models do but if I remember correctly POIs are listed in distance from the current location. I'm away from home at the moment so can't check on older devices that I still have.

Where there's a will ... there's a way ... DriveSmart51LMT-S, DriveSmart50LMT-D, Nuvi 2508LMT-D, 1490LMT, 1310, Montana 650T, Etrex 20

That

Seems to be the way it's always worked for me in the past..

Kinda makes sense..

Think if you were in Wilmington, NC and you needed fuel in Durham, NC.

Wouldn't you find it annoying if the first gas station listed was in Amarillo, Tx?

So presenting by closest distance has a fair amount of merit..

But what would I know?

Its been a while

But, as I recall, POI’s are listed by distance. I don’t think that you can list them alphabetically.

I agree with you.

POI’s sorted alphabetically

Thank you all who commented, I greatly appreciated your taking the time to respond. I will now quit banging my head on the monitor.

Your explanation about distance makes perfect sense, I was trying to get the computer to act like Excel instead of being smart and sort by distance.

Now this old man has learned something new.

Thank you all again …. Don

Expanding on that... If you

Expanding on that... If you put POI files in folders, the folder names appear as categories making it easier to find what you want. For example, I have Fast Food, then Burger King, Jersey Mike, ... under that. When I open custom POIs, I find Fast Food, then Jersey Mike. Same with Gas, Dollar Stores, ....

You're Correct

You're Correct.

The POI's show according to distance from your current position. Keep in mind, that the distance is a straight line distance, not the actual travel distance.

I get the same message. I don’t know why this is happening unless they have taken down that particular node. Interesting!

Interesting

I can open the link.

Wonder why you can't?

I just tried it again and guess what?

I used the contact form to question why people were having problems. I'm guessing that the moderator corrected the problem.
