Currently Never

In the US, they don't. In fact I fully expect Garmin to exit the GPS receiver business first.

The expression “Currently Never” is right there with “slightly pregnant”. In reality Garmin says “If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately) or if your Garmin product comes bundled with a nüMaps Lifetime or other lifetime map subscription, you will receive map data updates when and as such updates are made available on Garmin.com during the useful life of 1 compatible Garmin product or as long as Garmin receives map data from a third party supplier, whichever is shorter.”

It's Still "Currently Never"

I know what it says. Garmin isn't enforcing what you quoted, which means there is no indication of what Garmin considers a lifetime. Thus, "currently never" is absolutely accurate.

Lots of construction by me

Lots of construction by me with freeway intersections, exits, and road configurations changing frequently. Google Maps/Waze has the changes mapped and navigable within 48 hours.

Waiting for a Garmin update means a lot of missed exits where exits change order and you are listening to old directions at night with unlit signs. Garmin really needs more frequent and ACCURATE updates. I fear even their brand new update will be obsolete upon delivery.

It's a process

telecomdigest2 wrote:

I understand your position, but to be fair to Garmin it's not practically feasible. Garmin is dependent on Here to get the updates and there comes the time when Here determines that they have all the new data they'll collect for the next update, massages the data and passes it along to Garmin. It seems like a reasonable process to me.

Lifetime Maps

I'm still updating my Nuvi 750.
I think that if you don't update your device for two years, they might cancel your lifetime updates.

Gerry

I keep updating my 660...

I keep updating my 660... Hoping that they will fix the truncated street names thing....
I'm still using my lifetime maps purchase!!!

As is daughter with her Garmin...

I've Heard This

Key word here is "might". You are right that Garmin could do this, though Garmin doesn't mention it in their legalese. I've been able to update older devices than your 750 without a problem, though those devices only got the one complimentary map update. My devices with lifetime map updates? Still able to update them.

Quoting from https://www.garmin.com/en-US/legal/lmdisclaimer/, “A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more.”

You are right and it's my error in not seeing it. But IDGAF what Garmin is saying. It's their actions, or rather their inactions, that matter here. I have conclusively proven before that Garmin is ignoring this clause: I have multiple devices to prove it, both with and without lifetime map updates.

Just wondering if this will be the week or not. I guess we'll know before Friday since the updates come out on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

Non-Garmin Maps On Your Garmin Navigator

Has anybody here downloaded and installed non-Garmin maps on their Garmin GPS for automobile or other navigating?

OpenMapChest

I install Central America from openmapchest.com, since Garmin's definition of North America doesn't coincide with the established geographical definition.

National Geographic Society wrote:

North America, the third-largest continent, extends from the tiny Aleutian Islands in the northwest to the Isthmus of Panama in the south. The continent includes the enormous island of Greenland in the northeast and the small island countries and territories that dot the Caribbean Sea and western North Atlantic Ocean.

Checking back on this as I was looking at some help info on Garmin's site for an old GPS, it may have been mentioned in another thread but my search fu did not produce a previous response. Garmin US did provide a list of devices that are no longer eligible for updates. From looking at the list it appears to be limited to devices that don't support FAT32.

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=FbLi6qISMH8vJG5A1p9tW5

I don't have any of the devices mentioned at the link, but maps from third parties may still work.

Garmin Map Update Watch: 2024.20

I am currently on CN North America NT 2024.10.

My TopoActive PS NA 2022.10.

This is on my Garmin Zumo XT with Lifetime Maps.

Is the TopoActive PS NA also part of Lifetime Maps or is that a separate purchase?

The current TopoActive is 2023.10.

TopoActive is a separate

TopoActive is a separate purchase.

Life Time

geo334 wrote:

Why would life time maps expire for oldre models?

Useless??? NOT!!!

People tell me that my old nüvi is pointless because my phone can do a better job but traveling across the US and Canada my old Garmin does just fine in the many places where there's no service for directions from my phone.

Obsolete.

bsp131 wrote:

The limitations of some older models (storage size, file size limits, processor speed, etc.) can't handle the newer large map files.

Still waiting, let's wait.

Still waiting, let's wait.

Wait and Hope

Both Garmin and Google Neither correct!
The road in front of my house did change into one way several months ago, but still there's a lot of people getting into this road in wrong way, by showing their phones in Google map or Garmin on their dash mount they're correct doing so.

People seems never want to look at the STOP sign or ONE WAY sign, instead of trusting into the gimmic electronic devices.

As last post, someone told google update the map within 48 hours, it's true and wrong. It's true for some streets but not mine which is changed last half year ago into one way street.

But in general, still need Garmin new map update in case we don't have internet somewhere else.

Pray!

Ho Hum

Another week passes. Maybe this week?
