New page

New page, so it must be ready to be released anytime now, right? I guess it will have to be next week since the maps have only been released on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

Garmin Nuvi 2450

My point is

I am not trying to put Garmin out of business. I am not going to waste anymore money on them.

.

My 3790 is still going, but it's getting long in the tooth. I guess Google maps will have to be my main nav aid. An end of an era...

STILL NOTHING?

HOW EMBARRASSING!

Put me in same box as tmiller219

2x 2689 LMT’s. Both on second battery. Both with much “lifetime” left.
And a 660 that Garmin still updates but because of small screens, Garmin Truncates street names, and when told about it, said “Oh, we didn’t know that, but we won’t fix it”

Something about “Lifetime”…. Yet when I asked Garmin why “Lifetime” maps still works on 660, he just stammered, then ended conversation.

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

Maybe, maybe not

I find your comment interesting, and that is from the standpoint of owning a nuvi 2689. A few weeks back a group of 4 people were headed somewhere and the 2 back seat occupants commented on how much more convenient my nuvi was as compared to their phone based navigation. On the return trip, I had a different pair of individuals in the back seat and they made pretty much the same comment.

This was in Nassau County (Long Island) New York with heavy traffic and a considerable amount of construction.

John from PA

.

The traffic reports on the 3790 here, WA and OR are nonexistent in the middle of the state. Google maps were pretty good, though.

I do like the Garmin, but when it dies, I doubt I'll replace it with another. Perhaps in large cities it makes more sense with better traffic coverage.

Agreed

Only if traffic was a concern for me. Its non existent where i live and i have to travel 30 miles west to get it. I don't find it an issue for me personally. I've been retired for 10 years. Its an issue for many people.
Then again if your stuck on the highway traffic or no traffic everyone is trying to get off...lol and your stuck

Confused

After many months I decided to update the map in my 2597. When Garmin Express said the map was up to date, I was confused and thought for sure something must be wrong. I thought I was a few updates behind, but apparently I'm not.

This Week?

Please!

Maybe Not :)

Anywhere I go now, street changes are a lot. Especially the place I live now, I cannot recognize it anymore, more cones, more bicycle lanes, 2 ways become one way street, etc... confused everywhere.

Pretty sure if Garmin releasing new map now, they won't be able to catch up new changes.

But as far as people guess, still a little hope somewhere else smile

I think we all can see this party's over

My Garmin is about to become a permanent glovebox dweller. Even when the maps are "updated" there are too many errors unresolved. I've been looking at offline navigation apps for my phone and some are pretty good too. I've been a Garmin user for many years, but now it's time to move on.

I think

I think your right. I have been using google maps along with my garmin. It's just about time to ditch the GARMIN.

Garmin Won't Be A Glovebox Dweller Here, BUT...

For offline navigation on Android I've been using Here, since it is the source of Garmin's maps. Having tried other options I found it to be the best alternative to a paid option like Sygic.

I know the writing is on the wall for Garmin in the automotive segment and have known it for years now: it was one of the reasons I left this forum. But at the same time I love having the GPS on my dashboard, ready to use. I'm just fortunate my navigation needs are not extensive.

I agree with what everyone says about the automotive market drying up, but I have kind of an emotional attachment with my dashboard mounted gps and the whole rigmarole of updating my personal POIs and then reloading them into the unit by using my well-oiled procedures. I shall soldier on and wait patiently by the side of the road waiting for the next Garmin update.

possible

there might not be another map update ! and if there is it could be the last one . but it would be nice if they would give loyal customers some type of notice !

Map update.

I am not giving up yet. Europe got a 2024.20 update so it is still possible NA will get one too. That said, with the declining sales of dedicated automotive GPS devices, it wouldn't surprise me if Garmin goes to one update a year. As long as Garmin continues to offer and sell new Drive, RV, Dezl and Zumo devices, I think they will continue to have map updates. Here's hoping anyway! Don't be surprised though if they discontinue map updates on more and more older devices as they have done with the nuvi 3xx, 6xx, 8xx and a few others.

I will have to admit that I am using the on-board navigation system in my new Toyota and have not tried to find a mounting spot for my DriveLuxe 51. However if I ever am able to take a long road trip again, I will use the DriveLuxe because of its multipoint route planning capability.

I am still using the nuvi 3597 in my old Ford Ranger which I use mostly for local driving and short road trips.

Has anyone tried reaching

Has anyone tried reaching out to garmin to inquire when the next update will be available?

Whit I'll miss..

When the time comes, as it must, what I'll miss most is the ability to add to my own personal POI's. I have probably a total of a thousand lines of POIs that I'll not be able to use. On the other hand, I agree with alandb that as long as Garmin is releasing new dashboard models how can they not come out with updates? What I don't understand though is Garmin's silence about their plans for the automotive market. Oh well, farewell old Garmin, we hardly knew ye.

What's the legal definition of 'lifetime' map updates?

Page 7?

…nope.

One more try…

…oh so close lol

…doesn’t like me.

Lifetime

DrShrimpPuertoRico wrote:

The lifetime of the device, as determined by Garmin. Since they are still selling new devices, there will continue to be map updates, and the frequency of those updates is officially up to 3 per year. Reality says you can expect at best 1 update per year.

Responding to a different poster, asking Garmin when the next update will be is pointless. Others have done so before, and Garmin has never tipped their hand.

I just occasionally attach

I just occasionally attach my device and update. Occasionally being defined as every year or so (+-) when I remember.

GPS

I agree. I love my Garmin but it is not as reliable as the Waze and does not offer alternatives like Waze does. I use my GPS b/c if I use Waze in Android Auto, I can't play music from my IPod since there is only 1 slot.

Garmin Map Update Watch: 2024.20

It seems to be a longer time than usual this time around.

271 days

pratzert wrote:

This is apparently the longest it's ever been (271 days) for the North American maps. The 2024.10 update was on Feb 01, 2023 (Wed). Previously it was 203 days from 2023.20 - Jul 13, 2022.

Garmin Public Land Map Update 2023.10

I just had a Garmin Public Land Map Update (2023.10) installed for my Garmin Montana 700 Handheld Unit. So maybe other map updates are forthcoming.

Gary

better luck next year

It does look like the map updates apply to devices other than auto GPS so I don't think they are going to stop though they have obviously become less frequent.

Devices compatible with City Navigator® North America NT

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/1456#devices

For older devices, there is a notice that as of July 1 2023 map updates will be discontinued, but the notice is for Australia/New Zealand.

Aww, c'mon...

Aww, c'mon and listen up, Garmin. Your loyal customers need, yea crave, the new maps. You gotta have 'em by now, so how about letting us have 'em. However, if you got 'em and they don't work, then never mind we'll wait.
